Casa Alys

Near Zero Energy House (nZEH)

Extending the refurbishment of a Moorish-style home.

The same German client that had previously refurbished Casa Islay in 2011 came back to CORE in 2015. This time, he required us to refurbish another Moorish-style house that he had bought in front of Casa ISLAY, his original family holiday home.

The same construction principles as in Casa ISLAY were applied to meet similar requirements: Open-space living; spacious outdoor area; natural and healthy building material; energy-efficient building material such as clay plaster; triple windows; wooden decking; bespoke designed furniture; as well as calculated orientation of the house and windows as well as the shading.

As the client did not want to obstruct his own view from Casa ISLAY, he decided to extend the house to one level only. CORE made a complete change of the layout and extended the house to the east and south. Big south facing windows opened up to the pool and the garden. The client’s request for a big terrace without changing the size of the pool was fulfilled by creating flowing terraces over the pool, allowing 10 people to sit comfortably on a big table while making use of the big pool.
